A company promotes its top performers to managerial roles.
After one year:
- Team performance dropped
- Conflicts increased
- Targets are missed
- Morale is low
Management is confused… “These were our best people!”
But here’s the reality: Being a top performer doesn’t mean you can lead people.
The company rewarded results, but ignored:
- Communication skills
- Emotional intelligence
- Leadership mindset
- Ability to develop others
So they didn’t promote leaders… They promoted individual contributors into the wrong roles.
What do you think is the biggest mistake here?
